FAQ

Whether you need more information before making a purchase or you already own a SipMaster. Here you will find a wide knowledge about the game, the SipMaster and the app.

The game SipMaster

SipMaster is a revolutionary drinking game where a scale is used to weigh the volume of liquid you drink. Thus, how well you do in the competitions of the different game modes always depends on your skills and not on dice or card luck. Estimate your sips more accurately than your friends and become a SipMaster!

You can play SipMaster for free with a kitchen scale, or you can buy the original SipMaster scale, which has many advantages.

Download the SipMaster appto play. There you will find many different games and exciting statistics.

No matter if straw, glass or bottle. SipMaster can be played from any vessel and with any drink.
Even the driver with his Coke is not excluded when playing SipMaster.

However, we do not recommend drinks with higher alcohol content due to the amount you drink. Drinking quantities are based on beer and wine spritzers.

No! Each player has his own drink.

The drink is weighed twice. Once before drinking and once after. The difference in weight is used to determine the amount drunk. But don’t worry, you don’t have to do the math! If you use the SipMaster, you don’t have to worry about anything, except drinking, of course.

Nerd talk: depending on the beverage and drinking temperature, the density and thus the volume drunk is different for the same weight difference. But we’ve done the math for you. Cold beer and wine(spritzer) are fortunately very close to a density of 1g/ml. Therefore, you can simply convert your reading in grams to milliliters. If you play with a SipMaster, this all happens automatically, of course.

Alcohol abuse is harmful to your health. We are not responsible for any consequences of using this game. Just drink a water every now and then in between. This also helps against the hangover the next day.

The device SipMaster

The SipMaster is a precision scale designed specifically for the SipMaster game. The SipMaster transmits the weighing values fully automatically into the game so that you can concentrate on the most important thing: Drinking!

The game action is also projected onto the table by means of an LED ring, so that everyone at the table is always well informed.

Yes! SipMaster is free to play. Just download the appand grab a kitchen scale. How to play with your kitchen scale is explained in the app under “Instructions”.

But beware: very many kitchen scales do not provide reliable and accurate measurements. Although they show the result to the gram (or even more accurate), we were able to observe a shift in weight of up to 8g on a “some company basics” scale when the drink was touched lightly or put down twice.

The SipMaster is currently only available online.
You can either buy it here in our storeor on Amazon.

Yes and damn good too! We regularly use the SipMaster in the kitchen We got you for the pancakes after grandma’s recipe to sober up 😉You can also use the SipMaster as a precision scale and weigh things to 0.1g. But be careful: A slight breeze or even your breath can shift or fluctuate the result by a few tenths.

Operation

We recommend every beginner to start the “tutorial” first. This is where you practice the fundamentals that every game builds on.

To start a game afterwards, you need to add all the players in the lobby who want to play. We recommend sorting the players by seating position, as some games go in turns.

When you start a game for the first time, an information page about the game appears first. There you will also find the game instructions. If the page does not appear, you can access the information page during the game by clicking on the info icon in the upper right corner.

When you are in the lobby, press and hold the player or team you want to reorder. You can then drag and drop the player or team to any position.

Players and teams cannot be edited if you are currently in a game.

When you are in the lobby, press and hold the player you want to assign to a team. You can then drag and drop the player to any team.

Players and teams cannot be edited if you are currently in a game.

How you can change the difficulty depends on whether you are currently playing a game or not:

During the game:
During the game you can access the information page by clicking on the info icon in the upper right corner. There you can change the difficulty level. These settings apply only to the current game and are lost as soon as the game is ended.

Lobby:
If there is no game in progress, you can access the settings via the menu and adjust the difficulty there. These settings are permanently stored and applied to each future game.

The effects of the difficulty level vary from game to game. Therefore, you can find this information on the information page of the respective game. You can access the page via the information icon of the game.

Yes, it works. Make sure that it is not the turn of the player you want to remove. Then use the menu to switch to the lobby and remove the player.

If “In-game punishment” is activated, players who make a mistake or don’t hit the target area will have to drink a punishment. This increases the amount of drinking during the game and tends to lead to more escalation.
If you would like to play without punishment, you can disable it in the settings.

Note: In some games there is no penalty.

Yes, you can. Click the red punishment bar to open the required window.

You will get a short explanation of each diagram by clicking on the diagram description.

Tip: You can also click on the bars in the diagram to see the absolute value.

SipMaster Settings

The SpeedMode is used to make the weighing process more user-friendly and can be activated when the SipMaster is standing still on the table and is not being moved. If a player has finished his turn and it is the next player’s turn, there is no need to click “Ready” again in SpeedMode. The SipMaster immediately waits for the successor’s drink and registers it without requiring any user input. This is especially convenient because you don’t have to do anything – except play.

However, this mode can lead to unwanted measurement results if, for example, you have to pass the SipMaster down the table in a large round. During this time, the SipMaster must not collect any weighing values, which is why SpeedMode should be deactivated in such cases. Only when the SipMaster is standing still on the table again, you click “Ready” in the app to start the weighing process again.

The feedback light presents the result of the move after the drinking process. Some feedback lights are short and inconspicuous, others build tension before the result is presented.

Each player has his own light animation. You can create your own light animation for your player in the menu under User. The light animation always consists of the animation, color and speed.

Note: The color of the LEDs always corresponds to the player color.

You can adjust the brightness in the SipMaster settings. You can open the SipMaster settings by clicking on your SipMaster either in the menu or on the Connect page.

Note: Since the perceived brightness hardly increases from about 40-50%, but the power consumption does, we recommend a maximum brightness of 50% to extend the battery life. By the way, the light is much brighter on a light surface.

To do this, go to the SipMaster settings by clicking on your SipMaster either in the menu or on the Connect page. There you can enter the access data for your home network.

Note: If multiple known networks are available, the SipMaster prioritizes the networks in the order they appear in the list of known home networks. You can change the priority by clicking on the desired home network in the list.

Usage

The SipMaster is a precision scale and must be handled accordingly. Drinks and objects must not be struck. Falls, knocks and improper handling can permanently damage the SipMaster. The SipMaster may be loaded up to a maximum of 3kg.

Never use the SipMaster upside down. Make sure that the weighing surface is facing up. Otherwise, the electronics are no longer protected from condensation and splashes and the risk of water damage increases dramatically. Also make sure that the table is dry.

When you are not using the SipMaster, it should always be stored in the transport box to protect it from external influences. Also, do not place heavy objects on the SipMaster or on the transport box when it is inside.

You can use either Bluetooth or WiFi to connect to the SipMaster.
By default, the SipMaster always uses Bluetooth.

Bluetooth:

  • To turn on the SipMaster, press the push button until the white status LED lights up.
  • Launch the app and click “Play with SipMaster”.
  • The connection is established automatically.
It is not necessary to connect the SipMaster manually in the Bluetooth settings of your device.

WiFi:

  • To turn on the SipMaster in WiFi mode, press and hold the push button for about 5 seconds until the entire LED ring is green.
  • The SipMaster automatically connects to your home network.
  • If you have not yet stored the access data for your home network in the SipMaster or the SipMaster does not find a known network, it creates its own WiFi instead.
  • Therefore, check with your cell phone for available WiFi networks. If you find a SipMaster WiFi or the name of your SipMaster, connect to it.
  • It is important that your device and the SipMaster are in the same WiFi.
  • Launch the app and click “Play with SipMaster”.
  • The connection is established.

All settings of the SipMaster are done in the app by clicking on your SipMaster either in the menu or on the Connect page.

For more information, see chapter app.

Battery and Charging

The SipMaster is charged with a voltage of 5V.
In principle, every USB charger (e.g. for the cell phone) supplies the correct voltage and can therefore charge the SipMaster. Alternatively, the SipMaster can also be charged via the USB port on the computer/notebook. For optimal charging speed, your power supply should deliver at least 1A.

Exception:
Unfortunately, the models S-P10XXX and S-P11XXX are incompatible with modern PD (Power Delivery) chargers. All other models can also be charged with PD chargers.

Fully charged, the SipMaster lasts for approx. 15 hours.
If the battery should not last, it can be recharged for about 1 hour with 10 minutes of charging time.

No charger nearby? There are two main settings that you can use to extend the battery runtime.

Use Bluetooth instead of WiFi
With Bluetooth, the battery lasts much longer than when using WiFi.

Reduce the brightness of the LED ring
The lower the brightness, the lower the power consumption. From about 40-50% brightness, the perceived brightness barely increases, but the power consumption continues to rise. Therefore, we always recommend a brightness of max. 50%. You get a much better effect if you place the SipMaster on a light surface instead.

Li-Ion batteries age primarily through two mechanisms.

Charging cycles
Charging cycles cannot be avoided during use but the faster the battery is charged and discharged, the higher the “wear”. Since the SipMaster is charged and discharged very slowly, the load on the battery is minimal and the life expectancy is maximum.

Incorrect state of charge:
Li-Ion batteries age faster when state of charge is very low or very high. So if you want to extend the life span, you don’t store your devices with a fully charged battery, nor with an emptied one. We recommend a state of chage between 20% and 80%. By the way, this applies to every battery-powered device in your household.

In the SipMaster we use a Li-Ion 18650 cell. Since this is the most common Li-Ion design, a replacement battery can easily be obtained.

For information on how to replace the battery, refer to the chapter “Maintenance and Repair”.

Maintenance and Repair

If the weighing surface of the SipMaster is dirty, it can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

You will receive a detailed explanation and instructions for changing the battery by sending an email to game@sipmaster.fun

Note: You replace the battery at your own risk. Any resulting damage is excluded from the guarantee and warranty. When the SipMaster is opened, any warranty claim expires. Therefore, inform yourself beforehand to prevent mistakes.

Has the SipMaster fallen, been crushed or taken a violent blow and no longer weighs? This does not have to mean the end for your SipMaster!!!

Spare parts and instructions on how to change the scale sensor you can obtain by sending a mail at game@sipmaster.fun.

Note: You replace the weighing sensor at your own risk. Any resulting damage is excluded from the guarantee and warranty. When the SipMaster is opened, any warranty claim expires. Therefore, inform yourself beforehand to prevent mistakes.

You will receive a detailed explanation and instructions for changing the lid by sending an email to game@sipmaster.fun

Condensation from cold drinks and dirt will attack the wood in the long term. To make the wood more resistant, each SipMaster is oiled by us.

If you want to maintain optimum protection, re-oil your SipMaster about once a year. We recommend the use of linseed oil. Make sure that the surface of the SipMaster is dry, clean and dust-free before oiling.

Attention:
A cloth soaked in linseed oil can ignite by itself when curing! Never throw in the trash! Fire hazard!
It is best to inform yourself on further sources beforehand.

If you haven’t looked into troubleshooting yet, first see if the SipMaster can be repaired.

If the SipMaster can no longer be repaired, do not dispose of it in household waste under any circumstances.
We have collected further information on disposal here: Correct disposal of waste electrical equipment.

SipMaster

If the SipMaster starts, but turns off again shortly afterwards, the battery is empty. Charge the SipMaster. To do this, connect a USB-C charging cable to the SipMaster and plug it into a USB charger. The charging LED must light up orange during the charging process. The SipMaster is fully charged when the charging LED changes from orange to green.

If the SipMaster continues to go out immediately, the battery calibration values may be incorrect. In this case, reset the SipMaster to the factory settings to reprogram the calibration values.

To charge, connect a USB-C charging cable to the SipMaster and plug it into a USB charger. The charging LED must light up orange during the charging process. The SipMaster is fully charged when the charging LED changes from orange to green.

If no LED lights up, check if the problem also occurs with another cable and another charger.

If you are affected by the note below, use a USB-A to USB-C cable. With these cables the SipMaster can always be charged.

Note:
The models S-P10XXX and S-P11XXX are unfortunately incompatible with modern PD (Power Delivery) chargers. All other models can also be charged with PD chargers.

Press the push button for one second. The status LED should now light up white. If this does not happen, make sure that the SipMaster is fully charged. During the charging process, the charging LED must light up orange. The SipMaster is fully charged when the charging LED changes from orange to green. If the SipMaster does not turn on and the charging LED is immediately green, contact us via mail. If the charging LED remains off, the SipMaster is not charging. See above.

If you experience problems with weighing, you should check the correct function of the SipMaster. To do this, open the scale function and check whether the SipMaster weighs reliably.

In the rarest cases there is an actual hardware. Much more likely is an error in data processing. See below in “The game incorrectly recorded a high drinking value”.

If the SipMaster really should not weigh more, write us a mail.

Nothing is working out? All previous tips failed? There is one last chance: reset the SipMaster to factory settings and reinstall the app. All data will be deleted and your SipMaster will be as new. Hopefully it will help.

Reset SipMaster to factory settings:

  • Switch the SipMaster off.
  • Press and hold the pushbutton for approx. 10s until the LED ring flashes red. Now let the button go.
  • The SipMaster resets itself to the factory settings and restarts in Bluetooth mode.

During this reset, the battery calibration values are also deleted. Fully charge the SipMaster to reprogram the calibration values.

Reinstall the SipMaster App:

Delete the app completely from your device. You can then download the latest app version from the Playstoreand the Appstore. After the installation, make sure that you give the app all the required permissions.

Firmware is a fancy word for the software that controls your SipMaster. During the firmware update, the latest software is uploaded to your SipMaster via Bluetooth or WLAN.

We never do a firmware update for no reason and it should always be installed immediately. Presumably, the app needs the latest firmware to use all features correctly. With an outdated firmware, errors, connection problems or crashes may occur.

The update takes roughly 10 – 20 minutes via Bluetooth and one minute via WiFi. While the update is running, the SipMaster app needs to stay in foreground of your smartphone and your device needs to be located closely to the SipMaster. After a successful Firmwareupdate the SipMaster will restart und is up-to-date again.

If the update gets stuck or goes wrong, just try again. It is best to restart the SipMaster and the app before the second attempt.

Note: The update via Bluetooth is only possible from firmware version 1.0.0. Older versions must perform a one-time update via WiFi. For this we have prepared a video to help you (german):

App and Game

Your SipMaster is on and the bluecirculating light is running, but you can’t connect? By default your SipMaster is in Bluetooth mode. Therefore, perform the following steps:

  • Check in your App- or PlayStore whether you have installed the latest app version.
  • Restart the app and the SipMaster.
  • Bluetooth and location must be activated on the mobile phone. Only when location services are enabled Bluetooth LE will work on Android.
  • Make sure that you have given the app all necessary permissions.
  • Turn off Bluetooth on your device, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Go to the Bluetooth settings of your device and unpair or remove your SipMaster.

If all this doesn’t help, check if you can connect via WiFi. See chapter “SipMaster”
If you can’t connect via WiFi either, reset the SipMaster to factory settings.

The teams set up in the lobby are used only in team games. If you start a game where no teams are intended, the teams will be ignored.

When settings are made during a game, they only affect the active game and are lost as soon as the game is ended. If you want to change a setting for all games, go to the settings via the menu. All settings made here will be saved and used for all future games.

This is usually a software error in the app. If the app receives heavily distorted weighing values from the SipMaster, this can lead to incorrect weighing values in rare cases.

Symptoms:

A player removes his drink from the SipMaster and a very high weight value is immediately registered in the game, although the player has not yet drunk anything. This happens (with the most common cause) over and over again with every player. The game becomes unplayable in this case.

Cause:

This can have several causes:

  • Something touches the weighing surface and thus falsifies the weighing result.
  • A lot of liquid formed very quickly on the SipMaster (drink spilled?)
  • You performed a tare while the SipMaster was not empty.

By far the most common reason, however, is that a player slammed his drink on the SipMaster way too hard, causing the tare to be shifted. This can damage the SipMaster in the long term!

Problem solving:

Depending on the cause of the problem, you may need to re-tare the SipMaster. Swipe in the menu from right to left over your SipMaster or open the SipMaster settings and execute the tare there. In the future, be careful not to slam your drink on the SipMaster.

If necessary, check the reliability of the weighing values in the scale feature in the app.
